My Full Cup

About Me (and My Full Cup!)

We all live life in one of two ways – a cup half-full or a cup half-empty.  An optimist or pessimist, right? But I’m here to tell you that I fit into a different category.  And maybe you do, too!  I started with a cup that was half-full, but before long it reached the top, spilled over onto the table, and it has been overflowing ever since.

My Cup Is Running Over

Motherhood.

It seemed so blissful before I entered it, but now it is overwhelming. My cup isn’t just full—it’s overflowing.

In the Bible, David didn’t see this as a bad thing.  He described his cup in Psalm 23:5, “My cup runneth over.”

In my family, a cup that runs over is a bad thing.  My six-year-old daughter begins to fill her cup, and while she’s not paying attention, the water reaches the top and spills over the sides.  Immediately, her siblings begin to shout – as if the room were on fire – about her overfilled cup. It never seems to bother her.  She takes her cup – filled right to the brim – up to her mouth and drinks.  It’s perfect for her.

Have you ever been there?

People see my “hands full,” and they overreact. Their reaction makes me feel tense—their eyes, their judgment. My cup has been full for a long time.

What is it full of?  Sometimes busyness.  Worry.  Kids.  Schedules. It’s been different in various seasons.

My cup isn’t just full—it’s overflowing.

But without the crazy, I wouldn’t have the cuddles. Without the plans, I would have less purpose. So, I guess it’s all about perspective. Life can be so overwhelming, but so is God’s goodness, grace, and forgiveness.

And it’s that overflowing that brings me to you.  When the thoughts of this life fill my mind, they spill out, too.  So here I am writing to you from a cup that overflows.

Are you like me?  Overwhelmed by this life and His goodness?  Join me on my journey.
