Jason gave me these beautiful flowers for Valentine's Day. I was kind of in a hurry, so I took the packaging off and tossed them in a vase and put them on the table. By evening, they were wilted and drooping and sad.

A few years ago, I heard a story called A Hat for Ivan, by Max Lucado. Everyone in Hatville wears a hat that showcases their talent or love, and Ivan’s father is the hat maker.
